It’s important to make sure you have travel insurance for your trip to Thailand.

Koh Yao is a very quiet, peaceful place, so the travel insurance may seem completely superflous. However, you should always expect the unexpected and while a serious accident or having something stolen are very, very unlikely, you should protect yourself against absentmindedly losing your credit cards, slipping over in the shower or losing your luggage en route to or from Koh Yao.

It’s these seemingly little things that are far more likely to occur – often simply down to bad luck – and travel insurance can help minimise the frustration and, just as important, the monetary cost of any health care or items that need replacing.

It’s also worth remembering to take a photo of your passport data page with your cellphone and send the photo to your email account (assuming you’ve got an email account you can access online like Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo! Mail). That way if you should lose your passport you still have access to a copy of all your important passport info. Carrying a photocopy of your passport in your purse or wallet is also a good idea.

If you have credit cards, also take photos of the front and back so you have all the info about the card itself (the credit card number, expiry date etc) but also the phone number you need to call if you should lose them).
